My green terror who was fine this morning now has pop eye, i have treated him with anti bacterial treatment but what concerns me is above his eye is a white spot, best way to describe it is it's like a small pimple. Any ideas? what should i do? |

Pop-eye is caused by bacterial infection, parasite infestation, metabolic disorders, and poor water quality. The are symptoms one or both eyes swell and project from the head. In severe cases, the eye can burst from the socket. Yuukk! Pop-eye typically affects only one or two fish in an aquarium or pond, and is not considered to be infectious.
Treatments that you can use are MelaFix or PimaFix.

Yes, it is the same thing just more concentrated so you will have to make sure that you know the correct ammount of water in your tank. |

Another cause of popeye is diet so make sure you vary the diet of your fish dry food bloodworm krill lance fish bits cockles etc. This should help reduce the risk of reoccurence. |

I'm very worried about my green terror. He has had popeye for about 3 weeks. At first it was just one eye. I gave it maracyn plus every other day for a week. It got better, then his other eye got infected. It started to look a little better and then both eyes got infected and he developed a lump on his forehead. He looks a mess. I don't want him to die. Please help me, help hiim. He looks terrible and I feel helpless. In the tank with him separated by partitions is one oscar and one jack dempsey. He is by himself in one section of the tank. The other fish are just fine. Please respond as soon as you can. Time is not on my side.
Thanks in Advance.

water changes would be my advice. you can pretty much always relate pop eye to bad water conditions. weekly water changes will illiminate this type of illness for good. if that was my tank id do a 30% water change and treat with melafix or something similar. then perhaps 10% water changes every second day for a week then see if theres any marked improvement after that time. |
