I recantly got a ten gallon goldfish aquarium. It has six goldfish. I am not stupid I know goldfish pee alot and but my ammonia level has spiked in four days. I added stress zime when I first got the fish. So I think my biological filter isn't stable yet. I added ammo lock, but what should I do if I get more Ammonia? Just more ammolock? or is there a secret fish thing I don't know about. |

A ten gallon tank is way too small for 6 goldfish and the only way to keep the water good is loads and loads of waterchanges, do you use a filter at all? |

Carrot, sounds like you are overstocked. the only thing you can do is ensure you have a good filter and do regular water changes - i would suggest 20% per week - or reduce your stock. |

Can't really add to the comments made you are aware of the problem from the start personally I would try and get hold of some matured filter media (some LFS will sell it) and put it in your filter. hey presto instant matured tank.
Ammo lock does not remove ammonia it converts it to harmless ammonium so your test kit will still pick it up ammonium will be broken down in the same way as ammonia so expect a nitrite spike next.
How much do you know about fish? I don't want to tell you how to sort this if you already have some knowledge I would rather fill the gaps in so tell us what you know and what you have done with this tank so far i.e. how did you mature it etc. |

2 goldfish in a ten gallon would be a lot, also adding chemicals to try and rush a cycle is pointless it only serves to make 'the man' richer and mess with your tanks chemistry
the only advice i can give you is to take 5 fish back and continue the cycle with just one then you could consider adding other fish.
please read about "the tank cycle" |

One thing to state ten gallons is not a goldfish aquarium small tropical perhaps but an absolute minimum for 2 lionheads would be a 20 gallon tank for 6 you need far greater capacity. |

I suggest you get some more space for them or give them all back to the shop until such time as yr tank is safe ie 28 days after u have everything up and runnin...ask yr fish shop for advice |

You did need info specific to goldfish, as you have severely overstocked a tiny brand new 10g tank. They'll probably all die as a result of this anyway, but your best bet is to search 'ammonia poisoning' or 'aquarium cycling' into Google. |

Carrot I would say we have now advised you what to do as best as possible as you have only really stated you have a 10 gallon tank with 6 goldfish in it. You have not advised how long the tank has been running whether or not you attempted to mature it in the first place whether or not you have used a dechlorinator to treat the tap water whether or not there is a filter on the tank equally you have not advised us regarding your level of knowledge which is apparently from your first comment good enough to know you don't put 6 goldfish in a 10 gallon tank.
I would suggest you take a long hard look at your set up and make a decision based upon not what you want but what is best for the fish which would either be taking them back to the shop or buying a far bigger tank and getting some mature filter media to put in a filter that has enough omph to handle the waste produced by 6 goldfish. I think we have helped quite a bit considering most of us we find it abhorrent that you have 6 goldfish in a 10 gallon tank. I'm sorry you don't think we have helped at all. |
