I have fitted a Green Genie 2000 in fully functional order. However I still am have trouble with a green slim type alge in the pond. The lillies seem to be dying off (maybe winter) along with on or two other plants. The pond has been tested but everything looks ok. Fish have been missing fo 3 days I am assuming at the bottom which I can;t see for the green alge. Anyone know whats happening? |

Probably depends on your stocking level. Filling the pond with tap water will guarantee green water low water current or in your case blanket weed highish flow. You could try barley straw in the pond it seems to work using some kind of fungus i think? |

Stu - Thanks
Alan - 6 months old. I have just removed the oxygenators (floaters)this morning and their roots were covered in this Green Slime. There has been 2 weeks of leaf debris build up (which has now been removed) I haven't filled with tap water since obviously filling the pond, I have a rainwater butt which I used in the summer, however the rain faill recently has been suffcient. |

Barley straw works brilliantly. Don't really understand how or why - it just does! You can get small, tightly baled bundles from most garden centres that stock pool fish. We've had our pool (home to 5 large Koi) for over 20 years - always use barley straw and it works every time. Good luck. |

Barley straw and extracts of barley contains chemicals poisonous to algae but not other plants and aquatic life. |

Dont go to your LFS for the Barley Straw, and especially BS extract. They will charge you the earth for something you can buy from most pet shop as animal bedding. |

The leaf debris may in part be the cause of this problem. |
