Hello . I've got a biorb and its been running well for 5 weeks now with 1 oranda (Mildred)in it , until I then bought last saturday a baby ranchu (no more than 4 months old ) and added him, as shop said he had been quarinted and had only arrived the day before . Anyway on thurs he developed a lot of ich and so i treated the tank . Then today I found him spot free but lifeless and not eating . He ate Fri nite some flake and for the first time live bloodworm . I treated the tank to after care( a vit liquid supplement for use after treatments) and went out to get him a tank so i could keep an eye on him and so the other fish wouldnt be put in danger . By the time I returned , the ranchu ( Dopey) had died . I noticed that his fins were a bit scraggy too . What did he die of ?? Wud appreciate any feedback / comments about possible cause of death(as so unhappy he's gone )as well as what i shud do to the main tank . I do a weekly 20% water change and get no algae and have checked all ph ammonia etc levels and all fine .Next time I'll get a slightly older fish however he appeared to b the most alert and cos he was young I thought he'd be healthy . Other things in the biorb is an apple snail( have noted leaves a bit of snail trail about) and 1 plant that isnt edible . Thx
so is mildred, your original ordanda OK? if yes, then i suspect the ranchu had problems not of your causing - i say this because your retailler (a) claimed that he had been quarantined, then in contradiction (b) that he had only arrived the day before.
if he arrived the day before, how could he have been quarantined by your retailer? the 'q' period should be around a week at least.
