really i think you should perhaps use active carbon to remove any traces of the white spot remedie that you used..
this can be done in various ways, depending on your filter...
for best results, make sure that the water passes through the carbon..
once you have cycled your tank afew times through the active carbon ( for best resluts leave over night)..
the tank will now be ready to treat again with whatever you choose..
why are you treating again with melafix? |

i cant see why not.. depending on what exactly is wrong with the fish...
melafix, is a great product, which i do use myself.. however unfortunately it does not cure all fish ailments..
the same company that produces melafix do make other remedies... see their website for a more complete explanation...

hope its useful...

hi there, we have recently set up our tropical aquarium.
im after some advice. last week we purchased five neon tetras once we had brought them home and released them into our tank i noticed that a couple of them had white spot, as you can imagne i was not happy !
we treated the tank with anti white spot plus straight away and re dosed four days later.
the neons are still showing signs of infection although the other fish appear ok so far.
does any one know how long the infection will be present for? thankyou. |

Just for info api also make a remedy called Pimafix this is used for fungal infections and also bacterial infections that are internal and external. Melafix is really a treatment that boost the fishes immune system to promote healing but pimafix is a remedy in the true sense of the word I have a particularly stubborn infection on one of my distichodus which no treatment has been able to touch this includesa melafix I am about to try pimafix so hopefully it will be good I will let you know how it goes.
I wouldn't recommend this but I would say I very much doubt there would be any complications if melafix was used at the same time as other medications as the chemical make up of melafix is completely different to the more conventional remedies that tend to be based around phytotoxic metals such as copper. Melafix is basically a refined tea tree oil hence the pungent menthol smell. Having said this I still would not advocate using the remedies together. Carry out a few water changes and filter over some carbon and then treat with melafix. |
