what do you mean when you say the floor is suspended? is it hanging from something?

I have a 48x1x15 on a laning which is 'suspended.' My Dad's an engineer though so he checked it all out first. I wouldn't go putting 300kg+ on a suspended floor without having someone qualified OK it first. A hole in the floor and gallons of water everywhere sounds expensive!!
