Could Someone Help? |

Hi all ,
Wondering if someone would offer some advice or help? Friend got me 2 fish [Calico Fantail & Goldfish] to add to exsisting tank...Only recently found out the Calico Fantail has only one eye, looks like internal bleeding, is swimming lopsided, and it'll stay at the bottom of the tank & when its turning a corner will seem to have a 'fit'.
The goldfish has shedding scales? Looks as if a big chunk of scales has gone from its tail/body, tiny brown specks on fin and its back fin is barely there.
I dont know what to do at all, if anything . Pretty much a newbie to all of this. So far, I've separated the Calico and goldfish - from the other fish, and tomorrow getting some aquarium/sea salts as told it would help exsisting fish?
Thanks, for reading . |

Use melafix along with the aquarium salt for now and the scales will grow back. Give it a lot of time though.
The fantail has a swimbladder disorder- probably permanent.
Where did your friend get you the fish from? |

You need to sort out the finrot aswell as when it reaches the body the fish will die. Fish can live fine with only one eye as their best sense is normally their smell.
Also a fantail is a goldfish.
What sort of environment are they in now? (tank size, water parameters etc).
The brown spots are probably fading ammonia burns.

hope you are not dealing with flukes either! They produce similar symptoms. |

what we actually need to do here is find the cause and fix that rather than prescribe "the ol' melafix" yet again.
as martin says what other fish are in the tank? maybe something is beating up the fish? how long have you had the tank? how big is it? how many fish are in it? how often do you do water changes and how much do you change each time if at all?
answer these questions and we should be able to help you a little better |
