yes, planted. more natural and more relaxing for the fish. a bit harder to keep clean though than the more sterile setups some prefer.

get some taller plants like amazon swords.

Or if you preffer a bare tank for easy maintenance then you could consider potted plants

MC, nice compromise. You can then get some natural nitrate handling, plus less stress on the fish - but still syphon off the bttom to keep it clean.

my discus r in a planted tank at the moment but i hear lots of people keeping them in a bare tank

And taller pots may be used as spawning cones by the fish, hence saving money
