Can anyone advse on the best powerhead for a 60 gall. tropical tank.
Will I need a separate airpump, if so, which is the quietest?
Are there any piston ones still available?

Hello Maureen,I take it that you want to run an undergravel filter? if that is so you will want a head with an output of around 400 litres per hour, you will not need an airpump, just position the power head outlet at surface level, hyflo piston pumps I think are still made but not seen any for a long time.

THe hyflo are still available rom some guy selling recon on the internet but don't have the address sorry. Still expensive though. I'm a retailer and sell all kinds of pump and have found the new TETRA pumps to be the quitest around at the moment. As for powerhead a small "underworld Maxijet" would be a good bet. PS most powerheads come with a little venturi attachment that can draw air in to the tank to oxygenate it anyway... good luck!
