Setting up a marine system |

I am contemplating swapping from freshwater fish to marine fish. I was wondering how much more time consuming the maintenance on a marine tank is compared to a freshwater cichlid system. I would be looking for a system about 4x2x2. |

depends on how well you looked after your cichlids and what you want to keep in the marines, fish only or corals |

I would like to keep a few fish and corals. As regards looking after the cichlids i carry out a 50 litre water change every week and clean all filters out as and when required. Would i be required to do water tests on a marine set up and if so how often. I know i will have to use ro water and have a lfs near me who sell ro water already mixed. I would be trying to get a reasonably prices 2nd hand set up but will want to set everything up over quite a long period of time as i cant really afford to fill it with live rock straight away. What kind of substrate is best, if any. |

all of the following is in my opinion ready mixed saltwater is expensive and you dont have controll over it, when yopu first set up you will be doing tests every few days after the fist month i went weekly the after 2 months i went fortnightly, salt % test (get a refractometer) every few days and at water change time which is weekly for me, a skimmer is a must and so is live rock.
i use crushed coral and coral sand mix |
