What pipework do you mean? As far as I know, there are only 2 hoses anyway? |

No I don't, you don't NEED a spray bar, although it helps to add oxygen to the water, you do need an in pipe and an out pipe or else it won't work. |

Unless you have some other pipe work, the short answer is no. As long as you have a strainer (I) attached to some pipe work to take the water from the tank to the filter. At this point I would recommend that you put some sort of double taps. This will help when you need to clean the filter. Then you need some pipe work to take the water back to the tank, again, put some double taps in line. As I said earlier, a spray bar helps to add oxygen or you can just have the water retuning directly from the pipe work.
Is the problem that you have not got the bits and bobs in your photo? |

Yes!
You can buy it new with all the media and pipe work plus a guarantee for £80 from Aquacabdabra, there may even be places that are selling it cheaper.
If you can get the filter on it's own for less, then you can go to any lfs and buy the pipe work, bends, strainers etc for a lot less then £60. As long as the pipe is the same diameter, there will be no probs. Best of luck
