Helllloooo
Just a quickie, I bought a porcelain crab today. Put it in my tank (which had the perfect water chemistry) and the thing died within an hour! I have nothing that could harm it in there. I just wondered has anyone else had any bad experiences? |

Sounds like shock to me. Either that, or it already had problems when you bought it. They're fairly hardy creatures normally. Contact the shop - they'll usually give a full refund or a replacement if they die within 24 hours of purchase. Best of luck. |

Just contacted them and they are letting me get another one. It seemed healthy in the shop but fingers crossed for number 2! |

Just for your reference, here are the ideal water conditions for them.
72-78°F; sg 1.023-1.025; pH 8.1-8.4; dKH 8-12
Porcelain Crabs live together in pairs usualy found in or under rocks in the wild. Maybe it was lonely? The ideal aquarium should have plenty of live rock for both hiding and feeding, and should not contain any fish or invertebrates that may hurt these peaceful invertebrates. They are reef safe, and will not harm other invertebrates or corals.

How do your parameters compare with the shops?
What salt do you use and what salt do they use?
I expect it was probably osmotic shock when introducing inverts I normally spend 2 hours at least aclimatising them I even do this with turbos as they are very susceptable to osmotic shock.
I sometimes spend longer with sensitive inverts such as starfish and urchins. |
