hi all, what do i need to be testing for apart from ammonia,ph,nitrite, nitrate and phosphate, and what do i need to be adding and how often for a reef tank? i dont want to add a calcium reactor
As far as the supplements if you are keeping softies regular water changes should keep the calcium and alkalinity high however if you are keeping hard corals you may need to add calcium.
The are definately benefits to using a calcium reactor but they cost and they are not easy to set up.
Try the calcium supplement made by seachem I have found this to be very effective as well as seachems ph buffer.
I wouldn't bother with the TMC calcium supplement or the kent one the kent one is a bit rampent if you over do it plus its not that easy to find where I am and the TMC one is not very effective. Avoid kalkwasser unless you have a carefully controlled system with a computer as over dosing with kalkwasser can cause a whole host of long term problems such as carbonate hardness crashes and calcium build up on equipment plus if you over do it you can cause the ph to sky rocket.
