I am fairly new to keeping Cichlids (as you may have gathered!!) and would like to know if there are any good books or other sources of information on keeping Malawi Cichlids. I do have a couple of south American Cichlids as well but that was due to the fish shop mislabelling the first lot of fish i bought for my larger tank. Any Help will be appreciated. Thanks |

At the moment I have a 200l tank with a pair of red empress, 1 yellow lab, 1 female alounacara (i think) and a very pretty blue strippy but i havent got a clue what it is. Will post a picture when i have worked out how to download from the camera!!!!!!!!!! Could be a while lol. In my smaller tank (100l) I have Juvenile red empresses, alounacaras, and peach ones, and 1 yellow lab. Looking after the juvies and growing them on for a neighbour. They be going in a bigger tank when they older |

Hi Kate any book by Ad Konings is going to be a good buy with regards to keeping malawis, The Back to Nature series are particularly good. |

If you enjoy reading books then Steph suggetion is a good one, I find books are also a faster way of identifying species.
If its basic info you want, then as Ray suggests, there's a wealth of it on the web, just "goggle" Malawi Chiclids
With either method you will find some of the info contradictory but thats easy to work through, the more you read.
If you do this first & understand what is required, it will avoid you making the common mistakes that a lot of us have done, and a lot still do. |
