Recently inherited a comet goldfish - in fact originally rescued by my sister at uni from being boiled alive on a cooker! It was living with my parents in a not ideal tank with no filter - was pretty ragged looking. Brought her home about 4 weeks ago - she was quarantined at first and treated for a week with Myaxin as her fins were shredded with red streaks. Now in my 250 litre filtered tank with 2 ryukins both of whom are twice her size!! Her fins are healing up really quickly and she is eating well. Water quality in the tank is 0 amm 0 nitrite, nitrate less than 5. She obsessively gulps air at the surface of the water and blows bubbles after being fed - will do this for up to 2 hours, it drives me nuts. She doesn't flip over but is obviously then full of air and has great problems swimming to the bottom of the tank, she will often then hang just below the water surface. The other 2 fish act fine - ironically having kept fancy goldfish for several years this is the first goldfish I have had with this problem and I thought she would not be so prone to such problems being of a natural shape!! Have tried Pimafix in case of an internal infection - no real change, all 3 are fed peas and frozen food as part of their diet and good quality pellets which I soak before feeding. Any ideas? Is she just greedy - I am at a loss what to do now. Help would be greatly appreciated.
have you tried feeding live bloodworm or daphnia , just try keeping it on wet food (daphnia or bloodworm live or frozen)for a couple of weeks ,this should help
