Posted Arowana eye problems

Hi all, last weekend I bought a 12 inch Red Tail Golden Arowana. He just started eating on Tuesday and for the most part is healthy and in good condition.

Unfortunately I’ve noticed a slight clouding in one eye, I’m not sure if he had it when I bought him. But it’s not affecting any of the other fish. Does anyone have any suggestions to what it might be? The water is perfect, but my ph is a bit lower than his previous owner. I’m going to buff it up with coral sand, but I wouldn’t have though that ph change would be linked to his eye condition. Please help!

i would not use coral sand to buffer ur water as u wont be able to control it either! the eye should be alrite as it sounds jus like a bacterial infection if it doesnt clear up i would use a reccomended anti bacterial treatment maybe summit like melafix

it was possibly due to ammonia whilst transporting the fish. when you added it to your tank did you acclimataze it first by drip method etc as you mentioned the ph is different.
they can also take a little while to settle in and colour up properly, my RTG took a good month to settle into my tank and start to look good.
as for the eye just keep the water as good as poss and it should clear up

Thanks for the replies. I acclimatised him with a drip for an hour. I’ll take your advice and not bother with the coral sand. I have a UV steriliser attached to one my filters so I'll try some melafix aswell. I’ll keep you posted!!!

I bought him from a private add on this site, unfortunately HP lives to far away as I stay in Edinburgh. As it stands I think I got a really good deal.

Thanks again.
