Anyone with experience with Kribs and anyone with any general suggestions please respond...

Rio 180, heavily planted, lots of planted bog wood and a few small terracota pots, guppies, mollies, sailfin mollies, platies and about 6 adult Kribs and 4 smaller kribs.

Got a "pair" formed a month or so ago and they laid a load of eggs on some bog-wood, next day eggs were gone, few weeks later, no fry, so eggs were eaten

Have a "bossy" large male and "bossy" large female also in the tank, but they dont appear to be a pair, she flirts with him but he aint interested it would seem and they dont hang around together, anyway they both very dominating against the other Kribs in tank (but dont bother any of the other fish)

I posted this before and the general opinion was the bossy male and femalew ere interupting the breeding behaviours of the established pair

Took out the bossy female today and put her in another tank, because the bossy male was starting to flirt with another female and the "bossy" female keeps trying to split them up

So still have the dominant male in there

Today i noticed my established pair have laid egss again (on the planted bog wood - java fern)

What would people do
1. leave all as it is
2. remove the bossy male (he is not the father) as a precuation

Also - can people please advise, I really love Kribs (2nd favourite fish behind Convicts), so far I have managed to breed all my fish including the livebearers, Convicts, Brichardi and Judichromis Tangys, but i havent managed to breed my Kribs.

In the longer term shall i remove the established pair of Kribs to their own small set-up or would they probably raise the fry ok in the Rio 180 with all the other community fish???

cheers

if they are laying eggs in the open on bog wood then your tank isnt set up to breed kribs. got some cheap clay flowerpts at your local garden shop. smash them in half or drill ouyt the bottoms so they are big enough for the fish to get in and out. they will put eggs on the underside of the pts and will be easier to defend day and night. personally i wouldnt have removed any males of females. they are a "just add water to breed" type fish.

yes Danny Boy, actually have three plant pots in there, not sure why they choose plants and bog wood as egg laying types

interesting comments, Danny I agree Kribs are easy to breed, BUT, if they are THAT easy why would you need to set uo your tank especially to breed them? My understanding is that they do not require pots like typical cichlids, might be mistaken on this
