lighting levels too high? i dont think green algae is major prob especially if nitrates low (below 40 ppm) |

it takes a very sensitive fish to be bothered by nitrate below 40 |

Understand your point wayne, I'm going through the brown stage but I seem to be winning that battle slowly. Glass cleaning every three days now. I did find that I was keeping my white lights on to long so I have reduced this as well as my blues. The crushed coral which was attacked by brown alge has been dealt with by a sand shifter star fish and hermits and has now settled to its original colour. I have attempted a pre-emptive strike on the alge on my rocks by putting some graziers in. It seems that these stages are normal and as the tank matures the cycle will all fall into place so long as you keep the water spot on. But hey I'm just as new to this as you so could be talking rubbish! |

Those bubbles appearing on your live rock I'm guessing are valonia remove as many as you can from the tank and don't burst them you will make the problem far worse and I would add a few mithrax crabs to try and keep them under control.
I have a valonia problem in my tank and I have a nitrate of less than 5 ppm phosphates also low as I use rowaphos although I can't tell you exactly what it is at as I haven't tested for it for some time now. |
