Hi folks... totally new to fish keeping, started off with a very small tank with danio's and guppys.. purchased an established 4 foot tank with 7 Malawis, 1 plec and 1 catfish... added my existing fish and the carnage began... at fisrt we lost a few, but no dead fish anywhere, the numbers dwindled some more and then we noticed a dead guppy being eaten by the malawis!!!... what fish can i keep with Malawis without being eaten alive? thanks for your help

malawis can be kept with other malawis. thats about the sum of it. i can only urge you to research fish before you buy them in the future. it'll save you money and save your fish from suffering

Should the plec and catfish be in there?

plenty of malawis to choose from and some nice synodontis cats, you wont look back. entertaining and colourfull, some can be more aggressive than others, so be carefull what you choose.

malawis go with malawis n catfish n thats it!!! theyre a very aggressive cichlid that needs to b overcrowded to help keep aggression down as theyre aso very territorial as well. because of this u need to add ur new cichlids in groups of 4 or more to spread d aggression n its also advisable to move ur rocks n decor! but they r worth stickin wiv as theyre a rewardin fish x

Fantastic website tony.... thank you all for your help.... my dream of going to the pet store and just buying the prettiest fish has gone, but these malawis are quite beautiful in themselves (except for the evil black small fish eating ringleader who began the before mentioned carnage!!!!!!!! grrrr!!!!).
