slime disease? but if it was melafix should have sorted it??

i would try and increase the aereation as a temp measure

not an expert just trying to think what i would do.....

i wouldnt use ammolock, have you tested for ammonia?

if you put too much different chemicals in prob only gonna make it worse,

are they rubbing or flicking????

hello rob. having a similar problem myself, white spot, have treated the fish with king british white spot control and then noticed that the fish had become lethargic, allthough they are not gasping for air, they are hovering 2 to 3 inches from the top. you need to add extra oxogine sources as some treatments actually deplete the oxogine levels, which in itself can kill your fish. not lost any myself and keeping my fingers crossed. good luck mate.

rob, i have an fx5 plus an eheim ecco but still the oxogine levels dropped, have added an air pump this morning and can already see a big difference, the fish have become more active, its only a suggestion.

A stab in the dark Big Ron, people on here no far more about disease, but it seems like it might be flukes or something (a parasite), I think Waterlife Sterzain might be an option here.....
As for oxygen in the tank, i suggest making sure the Fluval 4 spounge is not clogged, getting the full flow from it and place the nozzel just above or on the water level, therefore getting lots of surface movement, creating oxygen.

Rob what species are you losing? as you have used different meds I would carbon the tank,as chemicals can interact to form different compounds which can be toxic,at 2 months old the system is still young, dont know the tank size/stock levels but I woud leave it alone just change water weekly and allow it to cycle, also if you are putting non malawi with Johanni aggro could have a part to play with weakened fish.

I am not the expert here, and maybe someone like lexter who keeps kribs may put me straight, but as you are talking about kribs and deaths baybe you would like to hear this.
my first set up consisted of neons, sail fin mollies, lemon tetras, etc. it was set up for over 12 months and there were no problems. I introduced a small pr of kribs as was told they will live ok in a comunity tank. months later i was losing fish on a daily basis, 27 in total, and no one could understand why, although it soon became clear. was watching tv when i noticed the male krib bomb dive the sail fin mollie and force him into the gravel spinning him and actualy trying to bury him, and that was why i was finding my fish dead, put themon there own and had no more problems. again its worth a bit of consideration?

Rob I think it is probably the Malawis beating them up,it is risky to put any fish in an african tank with established teritories.

well if its oxoginated, the water is fine, you have moved the cribs, theres nothing else you can try except a good treatment for fungus/white spot.
I have used white spot control and there appears to be a difference, going to do another water change in a bit and then re-treat again tonight. lexter is right, you need your filters in the correct place to oxoginate the water. hope you manage to sort it, as it is a worrie.

hey Tony, i know this wasnt the point of your post, but i have laughed myself silly for the last 30 secs reading that the Krib was trying to bury the Molly, even as i type it i am laughing and giggling
Am not a Krib expert but, dont think the Kribs will be responsible for cichlid deaths, although i do agree with Tony, they can be nasty, i have guppies in my set up with the Kribs and have to be careful not to put any over fancy-tailed guppies in there, coz they can "disappear" over night. Also I know i dont get as much fry as i should in my livebearer / community tank coz the Kribs get peckish and they are predators at end of the day.

lex can i put kribs in with gups swords sails endlers neons goldplecs etc
02-04-2006
17:04 by Lexter
well from my experience, Guppies ok (but be careful of fancy red tail guppies), sword tails yes, plecs yes, neons (dodgy) and as for endlers, i think it would be a HIGH chance a Krib will munch them

I got some lovely beautiful female Kribs who dont bother anyone, but my males can be more boistorous, and i know Kribs vary in their temperament, dpeending on what type of set up they used to, some can be perfect community fish with neons and small tetras and some can be almost Convict Cichlid like and real moody and nasty

17:05 by Lexter
Big rob, defintly go for Kribs on the smaller side, I got a couple of big ones and thats where i think i lose the odd guppy and lots of fry
02-04-2006
17:07 by Lexter
from what i have seen of male endlers they fit the bill for a Kribs mouth or any other cichlid, they small enough to eat, very colourful and attract attention and docile, not really able to defend themselves etc.... plus they expensive so i wouldnt mix Kribs and endlers, UNLESS you getting just smallish female Kribs then maybe, but would have to watch and if you are mikssing endlers with NO CORPSE or BODY, then you know, It's Krib time, It's not CHICO TIME, but KRIB TIME!!!

17:12 by Big Rob
but will the rest do, anyway i was given hundreds of gups all sizes mixed in were 7 endlers ta
