females also have the black line. but its not as dark. you can usualy start to tell when about an inch in size but even then its not 100% untill the fish strutts its stuff.

Hi,they can breed when very young at about 1.5 inches but as they hold for a long time it is best to try not too spawn them,as females can just waste away and die

thats a good point ray has made. they dont feed when holding so try to keep her away from the male after letting go of the fry, as before you know it, she will be holding again.

someone should point out how bad a practice it is to breed related fish. if you are serious about breeding then its always worth getting males and females from two sources.

only had these fish for 2 month bred twice 7 off her first time and whats ever in rock this time like rabbits !!

think i've got 2 of each, would like some more female, can't put picture on it's too large. Have resized it then can't find it

16:59 by Ray
Zoe I dont think more females is the way to go,as they will be constantly bred with and will need another tank for them to recuperate,Danny has a good point about inbreeding and it would be best to get some from another place. An all male group will provide plenty of colour.

18:35 by Zoe
didn't realise it would be ok to have all male with no fighting, definately worth considering though, just setting up a 3rd tank so maybe i'll separate them.
05-04-2006
18:36 by Zoe
would also love some blue ones, what do you recommend ?

05-04-2006
20:23 by Ray
All male setups can work quite well it is only when females are around real aggro breaks out,but bear in mind that all Malawis are agressive.Loads of blues are available P.Socolofi is a little gem not too bolchy,L.Fullebourni is another nice fish with big fat lips. Haplichromis Ahli is my favorite non Mbuna, males are deep electric blue females are brown.Have a look at some sites and see what you like then ask on here if they are ok.
