Does anybody know if black spounges in and external filter are generally CARBON, what do people think...... this relates to the use of White Spot meds |

yes they are the carbon sponges you need to take them out when treating meds, also Ive heard esha isnt too good for whitespot removal, are you treating with a full course, the meds only kill ich when its in its free floating stage, i.e it dose not kill the whitespot you see on the fish. |

I heard that increasing the temperature can cure and/or prevent whitespot which is why discus never suffer from it.Is this true? |

i think the temop has to be really high to kill it, maybe about 86-90????? |

clownloachlady, have ya ever thought bout taking ya clawed frogs out + moving em elsewhere?this could be a contribution to ya never ending whitespot plague! clown loaches are very easily stressed, which in turn normally leads to disease ie whitespot!the xeniopus frog will without doubt be trying to munch on ya loaches ive kept these frogs for years they feed mainly by touch so if a loach bumps into one of em the frog will have a go at trying to eat it! [its surprising what they can fit in there mouths] if i were you id move the frogs cos as ya know clown loaches are very expensive fish to keep replacing!as ya know they also dont act too well to meds so be sure to use half measures! just outta interest, what do ya feed ya frogs on? be sure to give em a varied diet cause if ya dont you'll get probs with bloat which can be fatal and if not fatal almost immposible to cure!this disease is caused mainly by feeding ONLY on bloodworm so give em earthworms/mealworms/mixed seafood etc!also as to getting rid of whitespot on ya loaches with mine i used a basic med/stop feeding/+ keep the lights off for at least 1 week! this worked very well for me and ive had no reaccurance since!hope this helps ps lexter is a gal!!! |

so getting confused! a friend of mine told me that he has used three drops of tcp for the last 20 years and his fish never gets whitespot. he also said that mollie carries whitespot, so with mollies in the tank im prone to get whitespot.
with regard to the frogs, they have been in the tank for years. i feed them waht all teh other fish eats, tropical fish flakes, blood worm, mosquito larvae, daphinia, ect. i know the frogs ate my baby mollies but ive never had them eat anything else
Ffurthermore i did take the two black sponges out off the serafil 900, THANKS LEX UR A STAR!!!!
i also think which might have helped to the loaches stress is the fact that i removed the internal filter, changed the decor around and im thinking it might have been just a bit to much change for them.
My temperature is up to 28 degrees. i will try and keep the lights off for a week and see what happens. when do u think i should do a partial waterchange? when the meds are done????? |

hello clownloachlady. try protozin, it has been strongly recommended to me for my fish, it has a picture on the box of two clown loaches. it treats whitespot, fungus, neon tetra disease *whatever that is* trichodiniasis, velvet and costiasis.
and a long side that you can also use sterazin. this treats gill and body flukes and internal worms.
I have used both together as was suggested and overnight I have seen a massive difference. hope this helps as it can be frustrating. both can be used for loaches. |

I have always added a couple of drops of galic oil to fish food and have never had a whitespot outbreak
whitespot is mainly a stress related condition,a friend of mine had a constant problem with it and found it was down to doing his water-changes with water that was too cold HTH |
