Is there anyway i can discourage my convicts from breeding? they're driving me mad.
I realise i might have to move them on, don't really want to put them in tank by themselves.
They are laying once a week.
Even if i do say so myself they are the nicest ones i've seen, the male has a lovely hump on his head and the females have beautiful colours, just can't cope with all the fry, and no i won't feed them to the other fish before someone suggests it. |

2 bricks would do it!
The only way to stop them is seperate them.
What fish do you have in the tank with them?
It may be worth adding a fish that will eat the eggs before they develop or eat the fry soon after hatching I know its not ideal but it is really your only choice in fact when they lay eggs just remove the eggs from the tank. |

They are in with the parrots and a few smallish catfish, normally the eggs would be eaten, but they have become extremely aggressive and nothing is going near them, they have all other tankmates cowering in the corner, the parrots just used to gang up and ambush them, now they won't dare. Think i might part with the females and just keep the male. |

If you remove the eggs by hand you will probably find the aggression stops almost instantly I did this with a lone female krib that spawned she stopped butchering tetras instantly although they were all on their last legs by this point so she is now in solitary. |

You could try something like a big eupterus or a large talking cat might do it I had a talking cat that used to regularly irritate an Oscar by not respecting him no matter what the Oscar did the talking Cat just did its own thing. They have some big ones in Aquazoo in the whitgift centre at the moment. |

They will attack you my little krib is only just over an inch long and she is plain evil she actually grabbed hold of a finger nail and started try to bite chunks of it off so convicts will pack quite a punch I expect. |

I have never seen any aggression from a talking cat they are to well armoured to bother.
The talking cat thing might not work the removal of the eggs is almost a dead cert though although the later is likely to be painful you can minimise the pain by waring rubber gloves like the disposable ones you probably use at work.
ewwww Matron! |

Yes they will definitely attack you, the way I found to stop them breeding is remove the other fish then once they breed youll probably have about 30 convicts of a half decent size - if your tank can cope they then wont breed purely becasue its impossible with so many convicts around. |
