Try Kent RXP, if you use it to have to do it when you have time to watch the tank because if the fish get really stressed you have to turn the skimmer back on or use kent poly-ox to remove it, but it works really well and is ok for a reef tank. |

My fish has had whitespot for touching three weeks and alls gone now.
I had an earlier thread telling what ive done, but i did the following:
1. Remove carbon filters
2. TCP (three drops a day)
3. Lower the water in your tank, pull the flow pipes above water (creating more o2)
4. LEAVE UR LIGHTS OFF!!!!
5. i used eSHa 2000 and EXIT
6. three airstones. one on ground level, one mil level and one top level.
7. Take all ornaments, plants out as u can monitor fish better.
8. HOPE AND PRAY! |

Wow clownloachlady, u are a very dedicated keeper! Most peoiple would not go to all that trouble! Nice to see there are some enthusiasts still around! |

i love my fish! i LOVE my loaches and it breaks my heart if one of them go ill.
Same when cat brings in voles, breaks my heart. the vet knows my by heart already and she has a box of tissues ready. four babay rabbits in one week, two breaths away from death.

How do you survive clownloachlady! ya heart must be in a right state..... know how you feel though I would not be pleased if my fish were ill as I try to make there stay as homely as possible.
Michelle I'm thinking of setting up a small 20-30 gallon tank just as a hospital tank that way you can treat your fish without disrupting the reef, plus you can watch them better and wait until they have fully recovered. I have had a look into it and the costs are not to bad in the grand scheme of things. You will save money in the end when you save ya fish, think how much they cost you. Not sure on putting medication into my main tank as I put allot of effort into keeping the water well and truley right as much as possible. My rule is avoid chemicals as much as you can. |

Esha oodinex is good and reef safe you must have the UV and skimmer off during treatment.
The latest issue of pfk has a treatment method for whitespot in a reef tank it involves dropping the salinity to around 1.015 for about 2 weeks I think I will dig the mag out tonight and post the recommendations. |

After digging around on the internet dropping the salinity to 1.017 is mentioned and rings bells I think with the pfk article you would need to keep the salinity at these levels for about 2-3 weeks. |

Kent RXP works but it says on the bottle use at own risk with inverts read into that what you will!
I have heard that it works well though. |

I have read the pfk article again it recommends dropping the salinity over a period of around 3 days to 1.014-1.015 for 6 weeks.
I had a chat with my LFS about this problem as well as not surprisingly I have a powder blue with white spot in a reef. They recommended dropping to about 1.017 for a few weeks.
What I am trying at the moment though is a combination of using a UV steriliser and boosting the fishes immune system with an enriched diet so far it has been working slowly with the spots gradually on the decline.
I am fortunate that the powder blue has not at all been bothered by the white spot and has carried on as normal despite initially looking like he had swam through a blizard. |

Michelle, if yours is a fish only tank, lower your salinity further to 1.010
I kept my fish at this salinity for several months with no problems.
Do some 20% water changes every few days.
