hi milo ur tank will still be going through its cycle what size tank u got and how many inches of fish u got in there angel?? |

Milo dont worry you could have bought the fish with whitespot .There are loads of remedies out there but i prefer the natural way ,bring the temp up ,salt baths .The more people fiddle with their tanks the more the fish get stressed which will leave there immune system wide open, you will prob get better advice off the more experienced aquarists off here good luck. |

Anna that seems to be the answer off loads of lfs,you can seed the water straight away and put certain fish in 3 or 4 days later i have done it . |

anna my tank holds about 15 to 20 gallons i think. its about 4 foot wide by 2 foot deep by 4 foot high. i have four fish all small goldfish (2 black 1 white/gold 1 multi )
Ed what is a salt bath and how di i bathe fish. |

lol only a certain amount u can never truely mature a filter in that time so the more fish u have in there the worse it is. also the fish take over twoo weeks to fuuly adjust to the different water parametres n so can still get stressed through this! if the whitespot is few and just on the fins u have caught it earlier than most do, def try a salt bath as it unsettles the parasite b4 it does the fish and the salt will also help if there is excessive ammonia in there as well i would also use something like protozin to treat it as well but u must remember to remove any carbon or zeolite from your filter milo. goodluck angel x |

i am sure there are ways to mature a tank fast, but got to be better to be safe-than-sorry, no point rushing it |

I kicked in a marine in one week ,fish were happy but did use the indestructable clowns and dominoes.Lost one fish in 18 months just sold it all

a week is good period Ed, i can do that, but using mature filter media and hanging dirty gravel in a big net and mixing it up twice a day so it spreads bacteria into the water that it then taken by filter. I have done this a few ties compared to "traditional" ways and have taken ammonia and nitrite readings to test this. |
10-04-2006 21:30 by anna
|
oh ed i have known many to do it fast but for most begginers they havent got the experience n knowledge of what u can n cant get away with yet yet, as im sure u remember how complex fish keepin seemed at first!! lol

i never worry about cycling or testing /parimeters if the fish are swimming and eating theyre fine thats the test. |

|
milo for a salt bath u want to syphon some tank water out in2 a bucket and for every litre add 1 teaspoon of aquarium salt n pop ur fish in for no more than 15 mins |
10-04-2006 21:32 by Ed
|
I would not say rush it to a begginer but if you have a few years under your belt it can be done, now mr lex i am gradually weaning you off the connie compultion i will try cll if you want |

Ed you kicked an american soldier? Why !! |

|

|
Marines annoy me they use too much salt. |
10-04-2006 21:39 by milo
|
wayne i understand white spot is a parasite but what about a "cycle" |
10-04-2006 21:42 by wayne
|
the cycle can repeat in 3-4 days thats how long the eggs take to hatch ,so repeat treatment 3-4 days after you notice the spot has gone and black fish are prone to whitespot ,velvet and costia salt is a natural source of treatment |

respect ED!!!! fair point |
10-04-2006 21:47 by anna

wayne we were on about cycling a tank as in its nitrogen cycle not the lifecycle of whitespot! |
10-04-2006 21:47 by milo
|
will try salt bath tomorrow. what is velvet?
Ed you need help with that hatred of american soldiers. i am sure their doctors advise them to cut down on salt |
10-04-2006 21:49 by milo

10-04-2006 21:50 by Ed

milo the nitrogen cycle is the process of waste bein broken down ( fish waste, our waste any waste goes through it) now when your fish produce waste in a mature tank the bacteria thats already established turn into instantly into nitrate, but unfortuneatly a new tank doesnt have the bacterial colony in the filter. so to get this we need to go through a nitrogen cycle. so week 1-2 we start gettin a build up of ammonia from the faeces and excess food of the fish, will get broken down by the first set of bacteria becomin nitrite which gets broken down by the second set of bacteria into the relatively harmless nitrate! now this can take 4-6 weeks to complete and the only sure way to kno when it is complete is to test ur water. i hope i havent confused u more milo! |
10-04-2006 22:05 by anna
|
NITROGEN CYCLE
FISH WASTE
becomes
AMMONIA (TOXIC)
first set of bacteria turns it in2
NITRITE (TOXIC)
second bacteria turns it in2
NITRATE |

My fish has had whitespot for touching three weeks and alls gone now.
I had an earlier thread telling what ive done, but i did the following:
1. Remove carbon filters
2. TCP (three drops a day)
3. Lower the water in your tank, pull the flow pipes above water (creating more o2)
4. LEAVE UR LIGHTS OFF!!!!
5. i used eSHa 2000 and EXIT
6. three airstones. one on ground level, one mil level and one top level.
7. Take all ornaments, plants out as u can monitor fish better.
8. HOPE AND PRAY! |

white spot has been a swine for me, i had a minnow from the river, but he seemed lonely, so lil bro went fishing again.. 2 minnow and a loach appeared. fine for a few months, then the big minnow started sulking round the back of the tank, girlfriend was really upset when he floated up to the surface from behind the skull!
within two weeks the remaining minnow had become infected, but so quickly! overnight one (the origonal small one) went from been perfect to coated in spots. he died the next day.
dosed everything with methyl blue, and cleaned tanks (second tank used as a hospital!) all seems well.
my question is:
methyll blue says not suitable for plants, so how do you make sure you`ve got all the bugs?
i treatedthe whole tanks regardless, the fish were more important than the plants. plants survived, turned a bit blue. |
