Brown algaes are not usually because of light, the most likely is excess nitrates and phosphates. What level is your nitrate at the moment? I would probably suggest going for a bag of phosphate removing resin and see how you get on. |

I'm not sure if this is a specific type of algae that you are dealing with, but I have never known a tank without an algae build up on the glass. I also have a friend who has kept Marines for 20 years and has even had his own shop and still gets algae on the glass. Unless this is some different type of algae to normal, I would say that it is normal and you can just scrape it off with an algae scraper. One thing that I do is only clean the front glass, this leaves the sides and rear to grow a thin layer, ( which can be lept in check by my snails ) that will absorb some of the nutriants in the water, and should therefore slow down the growth of algae elsewhere. |

I get this and take it as the norm as my water levels are spot on. However I did find that leaving my white lights off a little longer each day has slowed it down. I'm afraid you will have to get a magnet glass cleaner. It only takes me 5 mins to clean tank glass once evry 2 weeks or so. |
