this has been bugging me for a while. a few months back i bought ten cons and my friend bought five cons.
my cons went into the juwel 180 and her went into the juwel 96.
her tank had a few angels, clown loaches, skunks, yo-yo, neons, couple of tetras in it.
my tank has catfish's, clowns, yoyo, skunk, two frogs, tetras, mollies in.
her tetra and neons started to disapear and none of my fish has been touched. now i know now that cons love neons.
but in my tank the cons have not bullied anything, eaten anything or destroyed anything.
is it merely a case that her cons she so happened to pick enjoyed her fish? or is it because the space they was in was to small?
ALSO
my cons have made groups and taken various corners of the tank. the keep flashing their gills at each other and im tlaking four of them having a gill stand-off... really funny to watch actually.
is this mating? playing? aggresion? or just plain sillyness? |

ya cons have established theyre own little terriotrys sounds like ya got some mating pairs getting ready to boogie on down!have ya got any terracotta pots in the tank? if not put a few in [not too big]theyll pair up n start breeding females are normally smaller + when ready to mate will have orange/yellow bellies + maybe colours to fins! males will be bigger with elongated fins + will be the ones doing most of the displaying ya dominant fish will be a slightly darker colour! hope this helps CLL |

i would not keep Convicts with tetras, in fact I would not keep convicts with any fish really, exept themselves (unless you get Convicts of the same sex), as even with other tougher fish, a breeding pair of Convicts can take over a tank. I initially found this entertaining, but then stressful, I had Cons with Firemouths and Blue Acara's |

you can get lucky and have semi-peaceful breeding Cons, some are just more aggressive than others, without seeing your tank will be hard to tell whats going on, but definitly get some pots THOUGH THIS WONT STOP THE AGGRESSION, it will just envcourage the female to lay eggs if thats what she has planned |

I have one 2 foot tank with about 7 or 8 small(ish) cons in there but now 2 lots have paired up and both have bred, so have a 2 foot tank with 2 lots of breeding cons, there is always fighting, but convicts seem to be tougher, they can seem to take it more without getting depressed about it, i mean you watch a gouramis or something in a tank with aggro, its often not the physical abuse which kills a fish, its the mental stuff (i should know i am studying therapy!!!) but serously, it takes its toll mentally on the other fish as well, and a stressed out fish is MUCH more prone to disease and illness (like humans are), so i would watch your tank carefully, unfortunately sometimes you have to make sacrifices if you catch the CONVICT BUG, you may have to move the cons out of the the other fish out eventually |

CLL youll soon find out whos who in the world of connies in ya tank when they start to bred! cos there'll be mayhem youll find the dominant pair will own 2 thirds of the tank + all ya other fish will have to share whats left[thats if they survive of course]!!! |
