We we given an oscar when we bought our tanks about 4 yrs ago
just recently he has stopped eating his usual food however i dropped an earthworm into his tank and he ate that straight away. His normal pellets are just floating on the top of the water and he ignores them. |

Don't feed him for a day, he will soon eat whatever you put in the tank. |

try some different foods to tempt his appetite, maybe some young feeder fish. live river shrimp usually get the fussiest eaters moving. if he goes on hunger strike, pop in a few worms to keep him going. |

id give the river shrimp or earthworms a go nothing like moving food to get the ol fish juices flowing again! good luck anyway!!! |

The wife isnt very keen on giving him more earthworms but if his starvation diet continues i will have no choice to get digging. We thought it could be a problem to do with him being alone but he has been alone for about 5 years now. We have monitored the water quality constantly since we got him and he is in a large tank. |

he could have come down with an internal bacterial infection or possibly a gut worm infestation. id try some anti internal bacteria treatment and if that doesnt work you could try a worming treatment.cos if hes in a big tank and your keeping your ph stable it cant be anything to do with that. other than that the only thing i can think of is that he could be dying of old age as oscars can reach anywhere between 8 to 12 inches so yours could be a fully grown old oscar.hope this helps. ps. id keep him off earth worms and any live feeder fish as they could both introduce disease and parasites.matt
