hi all im back. New fish new problem. Got a new selection of goldfish. 1 black moor, 1 red capped oranda, 2 London shubunkins and 4 minnows. Yea finally learned the names of the fish.
I did a full clean of the tank and matured same, as much as I could, before I put in new fish.
10 days later my fish are starting to gulp air and staying in one top corner of my tank.
Did a water test after 2 days and the ammonia level was 6mg/l and the nitrite was 4mg/l. I know it will change over the next 3 to 4 weeks but is there anything i can do to help my fish???

Get some Ammolock or zeolite crystals in there, grab some gravel from another mature tank (local shop should help you there).

If your fish are in coldwater then its going to take about 6weeks for the filter bacteria to reach levels where they can convert ammonia and nitrites.

Some small water changes every other day will help relieve the stress of ammonia burn on the gills and above all dont feed for the next week or so.

Goldfish are hardy and although they wont look at all happy they will pull through ok
