Are you sure that it's dead ? Have you got an empty shell ?
Hermits regularly shed their exoskeleton as they grow and there is a lot more of it than you might imagine. |

Hermits will normally appear at night how long did you spend aclimatising the hermits? should spend at least an hour inverts are susceptable to osmotic shock. |

I have lost one or two hemits and have accepted it as something that may happen.... there was no reason for some of mine to die(2) and the rest to be ok..... it may have been a fight over a larger shell the empty one being the other hermits old shell and unfortunatly the other hermit perished.
I have 4 or 5 that have been fine out of 7. |

Just a thought, how long do our hermits live, and how old might they be when they are collected ?
We might be buying animals that are coming to the end of their natural lifespan sometimes. |

Lobsters can live to over 150 so I would imagine hermits and the like have a similar capability but in reality I would expect ten years to be a reasonable lifespan for the wee beasties in captivity.
Your comment though are appropriate billysfc when discussing shrimps that normally only have a life span of a couple of years. |
