i have had same problem! so far fished out 3 crabs one mantis shrimp, and still got at least one crab and one more mantis shrimp to go!
what i did was cut the top of a medium size clear juice bottle turned the top upside down. then put it in the neck of the bottle so it looks like a funnel.
next get a hole made near the top just big enough to thread some fishing line through so you can pull it out of tank
put a piece of prawn in fill it with tank water and lay it approx 45 degrees against live rock funnel end upwards then sit back and wait.
it generally only works when the lights are off. if you leave it overnight usually the crab has been and gone(usually taking the prawn with it) be patient though and you will get it! |

well it's not really my tank, it's by b/f and he has had more fish tanks in the 10 years we have been togeter then anyone i know! we has a trop tank for quiet a few years and then moved on to lake tan ciclids then had a reef for a while but when we put a tang in it killed everything! (bad advice i thinks) then trops again and now 2nd try at reef and so far 3 monts later, it's looking graet! i just tell him what to buy and where it goes and do alot of reading up, that seems to pay off so far!
So what about you? |

I've been keeping marines for 1 year only. I kinda fell into it through equipment becoming available cheap...... hadn't continued that way i have to add!!!
I have 5x2x2 reef tank thats been stressful at times but it has settled down now and because of this forum have learnt loads about the do's and dont's.
I have kept Koi for some years and will be building a large pond in the garden of a new house that i have bought. When money allows!
There is just so much to learn, even for people like Alan who is an expert on the forum i think contiunes to learn after 20+ years.... it keeps it in perspective for me when i think i know it all!!! |

well fingers crossed that everything goes well for the pair of us, im sure we still have plent of problems to run into yet but for now (touch wood) we have got rid of the air algie that came with the unlooked after tank, added quiet abit of live rock, pollips, sea urchin, blue cheek goby, clown, lobster and clean up crew and it is looking quiet pretty, just need to tell b/f to move some rock around (im not putting my hand in their , i have seen how big the bristle worms are!) so....so far so good! but any advice would be so appreciated |

hi heidi,i found a sea slug in my tank a couple of months ago after i bought some live rock,it was about 1cm long white with orange like spikes on it,after a couple of days i noticed one damsel was trying to nibble it and a couple of days later all my fish were dead, tested the water everything o k but i couldn't find the slug anywhere even looked in the filters so i think the damsel bit it and it poisoned the other fish |
