am gonna paste me answers to Zebra Plec Debate, i think it highlights issues in the forum, at the risk of being crucified, i wanna raise this issue...... IF EXPERT PEEPS ARE LEAVING FORUM OR POSTING LESS COZ JACKASS PEEPS ARE ARE INFILTRATING FORUM, what are we gonna do to solve issue, compromise so expert peeps will be happy to contribute? |

Steve Short, i have some agreement with you, i also thought this was genuine - just mis guided to do it on ebay - but thats MY OPINION. i thought it was a joke then i realised it wasnt. I thought Zebra was a fake, a forum phantom. I was wrong. This is a Forum, it happens all the time, someone posts a link about a perceived "silly" advert and people voice their opinions, and yeh it can turn into a farce, but this debate has been going on for a while now, Forum Jackass's versus Forum Experts. Webmaster has not set rules to outlaw humour and pi** taking, i been humiliated by Wayne many times on here 04-05-2006 by Lexter sooner or later all these comments that appear about people leaving the site and people being fed up and people being annoyed at silly talk, its gonna get argumentative, but there is NO RULE BOOK on forum, it will then be an agrument no one can win, one person will say something like "dont take the mick and post pointless rubbish" the other person will say "its not pointless to me and not pointless to my forum friends" I have said in previous posts, if people are leaving forum or not contributing anymore coz they feel all the education has gone, then they can go, i am not forcing them to stay, and i will gladly step back into line if Webmaster tells me so, but until i am told specifically that we most follow an ettiquete or a code of conduct, i am gonna post what i want, when i want. BUT FOR THE RECORD, i personally would like to apologise for any lack of respect to Zebra Lady, i answered the thread but took it too far. 04-05-2006 by Lexter The one i arguement i can buy into is if peeps / forum experts, say that the humour, flirting and jokes are pushing away forum expert peeps and leaving us with no pool of knowledge that could be a problem, and i would agree (and i am sure i have dont it countless times) that a SPECIFIC FISH EXPERT PEEPS post and post SPECIFICALLY for fish advice should not be HIJACKED into humour or on-line dating. THAT I AGREE with. But for example this post was a link basically having a friendly banter at the ebay Zebra Shares Scheme Pleco. I just think one boundary that can be followed by all of us is a FISH RELATED QUESTION as a thread STAYS in that context and if someone wants to start a thread about anything more light hearted then it can become a free for all joke thread perhaps???? I think threads should NOT be hijacked and content of thread should relate to title and point of thread, if you havent got a sensible contribution dont post on the thread i personally am gonna continue flirting with female forum users (but stick to above rule), even if wayne does call me desperate partner seeker or deperate this or desperate that!!!

It is a difficult balance to attain. On one hand, we want to provide a community resource, where unlike other fish forums, we can also chat about non-fish matters.
On the other hand, the core purpose of the forum is to provide fishkeeping information and support. I intended to intervene minimally, but some forum users are indeed diluting the value of the forum. Forum hijacking is a point in focus. It may well be time to intervene when this takes place. Also we are getting more new threads for non-fish chat, than genuine fishkeeping matters. It costed me good money to provide the chat room in order to give you guys an opoortunity to communicate more, even placing it in the forum to give you all the best of both worlds. So the jury is still out at present on the amount of intervention required. If fishkeepers with genuine questions cannot get an answer because of meaningless banter, then surely such comments should be trimmed back. Looking forward to responses on these comments ... |

A flood control would be good, also thread hijaking should be allowed as long as the op isnt bothered.
Maybe a general chat section in the forum would be good, then if anyone is bothered they wont have to know the threads are there. |

hijacking of threads drives me nuts and erodes the assistance we can give to newbies I come on here to help people the occasional bit of banter in its place but but when someone posts on here with a problem why do people have to hijack the thread with either meaningless answers or ridicule its just not on there was a time when all the threads had a reasonable bit of banter but minimal micky taking and ridicule do none of you remeber when you were new to the hobby I do and that was over 20 years ago! Rant over! |

Solution is simple people need to have respect for the fact that many people that post on here have genuine problems and those that feel the need to erroniously pointless replies should hold up for a second and think perhaps this person has a real problem perhaps they have come here as a last resort because no one else could help and how would you like it if you saw this as your last resort and someone start taking the piss or hijacking your thread.
Its down to having respect for other people clearly it is a problem on this site at the moment as it is a wider problem in British society at the moment does no one have any respect for other people any more can no one empathise any more in does my nut!!!!!  |

Apologise for that and I can't swear in posts I am subject to the same filters as everyone else unfortunately I have a rather wide vocabularly consisting of mainly obscenities I try and keep it under control but I occasionally slip any kiddies reading you shouldn't use bad language its wrong and when I was younger you would have got a clip round the ear and I'm only 26 I think might be 27 I can't remember seriously I can't remember and I don't have the inclination to work it out.
Basically the solution to this is people need to try and control themselves don't reply if you don't have something valid to say if you want a pointless chat about a certain topic fine have a thread for it but don't invade other fish related threads with topics of the day such as how small you are it is eroding the validaty of this still very good forum. |

I have had the swear word debate with webmaster as the filter is a bit hit and miss I'm happy to test it but I don't think the webmaster would be to happy especially if I started chucking rhyming slang in it would descintegrate into a load of old jackson's. |

Telboy I had a look for the bit you mention about someone calling themself an expert I couldn't find it could you point it out please if I have inadverntently stated I'm an expert in one of my rants then I apologise I certainly am no expert but I do have a fair bit of experience in the hobby and I have made loads of mistakes that I would like to help people avoid. |
