hi, i have a pair of albino tiger oscars and if any one on the forum knows anythink about breeding them. one of them is very aggresive towards a piece of bog wood and they keep on moving stones around in my tank would u class this as breeding behaviour? |

I've not had Oscars for long but I did reaserch them before getting some. They are clever fish compared to most, they will out of boredom move rocks and gravel around the tank, I have taken out all rocks and slate smaller than the size of mobile phones for fear that they will smash the thermostate, or crack the tank, the bogwood thing, it is prob just trying to move it because it doesn't like where it is, have you recently rearranged your tank? Again they use objects as terratory markers and this can cause them to rearrange your tank.
For breeding they will dig out a pit in the gravel and lay their eggs in there and then guard them, or they will try to move flatter rocks to get them level to lay their eggs on. There are loads of web sites that can give loads more info than I can, just serch Breeding Oscars.
Hope this helps. |

it could be a sign but are these fish related? if so its not good practice to breed them. they will breed from 4-5 inches and make a mess of it initially. you can always identify a pair in a tank of oscars as they will swim side by side. also do you even know what sex they are? they need to be vented to be sure. even 2 females will pair off and lay eggs. but you will wait for ever for no fry.
dont be fooled by people claiming to have a breeding pair for sale on ebay. oscar pairs are seldom seen unless a dedicated breeder has made th effort and even then he will want good money for them. potentially if you have a supplier to buy the fry you could make £500 from each batch. but be prepared to cull many fish to provide good quality fish.
a sad side of fish breeding but something that would happen naturally |

be suspicious. a breeding pair is only a breeding pair if youve seen the fry. |
