Sorry to bother everyone. This is the first time I have used your Forum. Could anyone help. One of my Discus has developed, over the past 3 days,a cloudy (in appearance) right eye. All water parameters are ok. No new fish or plants have been added. She is 5.5 inches and is feeding well.
Anyone got any suggestions. |

If your parameters are ok >>ie nitrate ok try a dose of myxazin this will clear it up |

Water parameters using a Nutrafin essential mini master test kit are PH 6.5 Nitrite less than 0.1mg/L Nitrate about 20mg/L and Ammonia is less than 0.6mg/L (closer to zero). Thanks, Andy |

I would think its down to either water quality or an accidental knock. Either way I would be increase water changes. As mentioned above myaxin may help too |

Thanks Alan. I am confident that water quality is ok, howevever will increase water change as well as treating with Myxazin.
Thanks again.

did this eye happen to go cloudy after a water change |

Zebra, come to think of it, the problem has occured after a 1/4 tank water change. However I complete a 1/4 tank water change weekly. I am intruiged as to why you have asked the question though.
Thanks

eyes will go cloudy when the ph is changed and can go cloudy with just the simplest thing like a water change and would be not be too quick putting medications in stress coat added can help this usualy clears itself in a couple of days unless it has damaged its eye or scratched it |

Zebra, never had this problem with any of my fish before and I must admit I was not aware that this could happen.
Thanks very much for your advice.
Thanks

no problem it can occur sometimes to just one fish as it swims through the new water it can and does happen also when the water isnt changed enough the ph can take a sudden change and the first sign of this is cloudy or a cloudy eye but unless the eye looks damaged dont start adding medications it will correct itself just increase the temp slightly for a couple of days and this eye will be fine |

Nice catch zebra. Had the same problem with a couple of discus that had been kept in tap water at LFS. Problem cleared up in a couple of days. Good to have experienced fishkeepers on here and glad the argument earlier in the week hasn't put you off the site |

Zebra, I think you may you may have come up with the solution.
The Discus in question is the inquisitive Discus in the tank. She actually gets in the way when introducing new water. Also I have just tested my water and for some reason Ph has risen to about 7.0 from 6.5, since my last test a week ago. All other parameters are as good as previously mentioned. I will reduce the Ph gradually.
I will also increase temp slightly.
I will let you know how things go
Thanks again.

Andy, gegarding these test kits. Have found a marked difference in results when you shake the life out of the solution bottle before adding to the test tube.Just a hopefully helpful tip |
