Can anyone help me and tell me what to do with "gaping gills". Some of my 2" stendker scribbelts have gaping gills coupled with rapid gill movement. Looking at the fish head on you would think they were "hooded". They appear health enough and are eating well. Ph is 6.5, temperature 30 degrees and I change 15% water daily. |

I had the same problem with my firemouth, but she died not long after. I don't know what was the matter with her, but she was eating fine, until a few days later she began to linger at the top of the water, and the next day i found her dead. |

I have seen me switch on an air pump and airstone for a short period or time, if I see fish gasping and breathing quickly. This helps to oxgenate the water. |
