Just wondered what you guys thought, My bubble anemone was stinging my sarcophyton for about a day, I moved it but it has been shut down and shedding thin layers of skin for about three days. Is it dying or just recovering. At the mopment it's still a little firm to the touch. |

wierd you say this because i was reading about this in an old isue of pfk last night. what you have described is what they describesd as shedding-even though it looks dead. it will shrivel, but thats fine, the prosses can take from a couple of hours to a couple of weeks.
they also said you can test if its dead or not by bringing it 2 the surface and sniffing it, if it smells like fresh sea food its fine, if it smells horrible its dead!! |

Make sure there is good water flow around it what is the ph alkalinity and calcium like?
If you don't know test it I have found sarcophyton sensitive to depletion over long periods early mistake of mine. |

Ph is between 8 and 8.5 as my test kit doesn't have a colour in between those figures on the colour chart, salinity is 1.025. Not sure about calcium, I add it by means of seachem reef complete as I was given two bottles. I just follow the instructions on the bottle. I do have a calcium test kit, but it's been in a friends attic for three years so Will have to retrieve it when I get a chance and see if it still works. |

I lost a leather in my early days I was over doing it with kalkwasser and caused an alkalinity crash the corals skeleton basically dissolved and allmy corals turned to mush. Leathers do periodically shed once or twice a month shouldn't be any more than that if it is there is probably something not right. |

I think it's more to do with my bubble anemone stinging it for a day, today it had a few polyps out, so I'm sure it's fine. It just may take a few days to put all the polyps out I guess. |

I had a bubble anemone living under neath my leather for 6 months no problems if your bubble nem has stung it I think you are unlucky. |
