I am considering converting our rarely used swimming pool into a koi carp pond - does anyone have any experience or advice they could offer? I have an existing swimming pool filtration system and I know that this is not suitable for the conversation - any help would be gratefully received.I am considering converting our rarely used swimming pool into a koi carp pond - does anyone have any experience or advice they could offer? Yes there are deffinetely ways to do a conversion.
I am starting this exact project this week in fact. Except the pool will still be for swimming and not fish. Fish would be okay though.
Basically with all other components of the pool intact I am adding an above ground two step basin filled with cinders and filtering plants. The ideal size seems to be about 5% of the pool volume. It will be four feet deep, then pour into a second basin acting as a way to get around the pool and as a oxygenation pond. The water will then simply pour back into the pool. The sand filter or whatever is on your pool will need to be backflushed more often but it is wonderful for the plants in your yard. Feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
