hi martin i has my eheim 2227 set up with the eheim efhi pro balls (i was lucky mine came in it) and i didnt put sponges in it as i wanted it purely for biological filtration. as danny boy suggests alfagrog wud be the cheapest and i dont see a problem using it in a marine tank.

you gotta watch some of the media you use in a wet and dry as if the media floats it will kill you filter , just a thought
