im looking for a skimmer for a 36"x18x12 (lxhxd) and nearly all the ones ive found are meant for a minnimum of a 100 gallon tank (or it seems that way) and cost atleast £200.
p.s ed , the landlord saidno more fish tanks so the malawis need to be going to make space |

I know I got mine for cheap as the guy said, that when he down sized tanks, the skimmer would no longer fit into the sump as the cabinet was to low. |

I recently bought a lees medium as I'm on a budget and I begrudge paying £100 for a glorified abs pipe with a collection cup.
It cost me £21 the airpump to run it would cost you about £30 works a treat need 2 out lets ideally from the air pump as there is one airline to run the flow of water in the skimmer and another to create the foam. Its rated to 50 gallons.
Incidentally Iwouldn't bother with a seaclone I actually improved mine I took it apart and used a couple of the components to create and internal airdriven skimmer it was far more effective than the sea clone thats for sure!
Another option is a berlin airlift skimmer this again is an internal airdriven skimmer better built than the lees.
Does your tank have huge bracing bars? If so it may be better to go for the berlin airlift as it comes with a bracket to fit on to a bracing bar I had to do a few little mods to my lees to get it on my tank as I have 4 inch bracing bars. |

|
i have got a bracing bar (about 2") but this is only on the front and back. the sides are clear of obstructions. |

im thinking of going for the prism pro with the uv and that as the premium bonds have just come up, are these any good? |
16-05-2006 13:26 by Alan
|
It would do the job never used a prism myself I have heard mixed reports on them the main one being they are sometimes noisy. |
16-05-2006 13:33 by Alan
|
Incidentally have you looked at the price comparison pages on this site yet its well worth doing.
Sander make an internal skimmer rated to 33 gallons your tank is 28 so it would be sufficient they come in a number of sizes. |

ive bought the pro now, and some sound proofing foamy stuff that fits around it. thanks for the advise guys.
