I have two different types of soft coral and they seem to be decomposing parts look alive but others just seem to be rotting and falling off plus they start to get pitted white patches on them that seem to be getting bigger what can i do to save them the little polyp things are still coming out on them

If you have a good bit with no rot on it at all, you could simply cut off a bit with a really good pair of scissors. Then the fun bit is trying to get it to stick to a new bit of rock. Some people try rubber bands, others puch a plastic coctail stick through the base and use rubber bands to hold the coctail stick. Once it has stuck, you just remove the coctail stick.
Of course it could just be shedding its skin as mine did a last week, and now it looks even better.

If they are dfalling apart check the following parameters and if they are off sort them out.

Alkalinity or carbonate hardness as it is sometimes called

Calcium

PH

Phophates

If any of these are off it will result in the skeletons of the softies disolving.

Also check nitrates.

Once you have got the water sorted it is a case of waiting to see if there is any improvement if there is not I would then go with billysfc suggestiong of fragging the corals to try and recover something of the mess.

Also make sure the sg is right for corals.

I had the same problem with a soft coral i had. It had brown patches or algea like stuff covering parts of it. All i had to do was clean the skum of the coral, the skum was stopping the light getting to the covered parts of the coral making it rot. Placing Iodine in the water helps frags heal and corals that are damaged heal.

If you frag this then milli putt is ok to use although good old super glue (the type that sticks your fingers together) from B+Q works instantly.

Here's a photo of three small acropora frags that I had to take as the parent was dying from the base up. I threw the parent away as I wanted to remove any potential bacterial infection and the little frags have been happy ever since.

I tried fragging mine but it just wouldn't have it and i lost it all... the coral just kept falling apart...... after the LFS said adding Iodine may of helped it.

I expect it was already dead and there was nothing you could do.
