I have an Australian Rainbow fish with a bad eye. I only noticed it today and I'm sure it was ok yesterday. I've attached a couple of photos for the fish doctors among you and would appreciate any advice. |

It's the fish's right eye (left side of picture) it looks like the 'socket' is lumpy and swollen. |

personally i would blame the cause on your tank regime. id suspect you aint doing water changes often enough. i always do a 30% water change every week and never, i repeat never, get sick fish. it just dont happen.
think id probaly do a 30% water change and add salt with that. |

Looks like pop eye, caused by build up of bacteria behind the eye socket, do as db says nice water change and you could maybe a add a anti bacterial if you don't it will get worse and he may lose his eye. |

This is quite a common problem with melanotaenia Rainbows. They do need to be kept in a fresh tank so water changes weekly will help rainbows. I would also feed some vege flake food, as a diet without sufficient vegetable matter may not provide the nutrients that rainbows need. |
