Welcome to the forum thats what its here for.
A slight trace of ammonia will cause the fish to flick a few times - it irritates the gills.
More than likely a few parasite. If you can get someone to carry out a gill and skin scraping just to confirm it is parasites before you go ahead and treat. A small or nominal fee might be charged but beware anyone posing as a pond consultant they can stick the arm in.
Local aquatic outlets or even a local koi club would steer you in the direction of someone with a microscope for doing this.
What area are you from?
Keep an eye on any lethargic fish and best to treat them in a large isolation tank with right dose of the tonic salt.
Are the eyes swollen or sunken in that particular fish?
Very diff to tell just descriptions have you any photos of the pond or sick fish

sorry for your loss - but we have all been there, some more than others.
Sounds like a bacterial problem which could have been secondary. The initial problem would have been parasites or even stresses of the filters going through the maturing phase. High NH3 etc
Best to treat your pond with an anti parasite remedy. If fish are still showing lethargy after the treatment then a prophylactic anti-bacterial treatment should follow.
Keep them off the feed during treatment and careful attention to NH3, NO2 levels |
