I had to move my 2 convict an their 3 day old fry last night, as i had put them in a tiny 12" tank that i use for cleaning out and they decided to start a family in it ! anyway i bought a new jewel tank and set it up a few days ago, moved them last night and think we managed to save all of them, mum went round the tank collecting any strays and put them all in her flower pot which she is guarding. looked this morning and they are not wiggling as much, but they are omving. do they stop wiggling frantically when they have used all the yolk sac, or have i damaged them ?

They should still be wriggling, how did you move them? |

They were all in a terracotta pot in the little tank, so i just put the whole thing, mum inside to, into the new tank, just been to look and they've gone from the pot, i think mum has moved them cause she's now guarding another cave. |

Then i wouldn't worry, they should start to swim a few days after hatching but it takes them a week to get the hang of it properly |

ya may have damaged them ie diff water quality/temp etc but they are very hardy fish ! youll just have to wait a few days + see what happens zoe

Mum has definately moved them, and they're wiggling like mad again ! think they must have just been a bit shocked. can't believe how tiny they are. |

Hi Zoe. Good luck with all this. As a convict lover i know the feeling, despite having had about 20 or so "broods" i still dont get bored of all their parenting habits and funny ways.
Expect to lose a few fry (sometimes a good fair few) even if you do everything perfect.
If it all goes wrong, you an be rest assured mum will probably lay eggs again within 2-4 weeks (or even sooner)
Get in touch if you wanna swap any tips or experiences on convicts and convict fry. |
