Have any of you lot come across a cichlid group called Tylochromis. They are similar in design to Geophagines but are from Africa I'm guesing they have evolved seperately from Geophagines to fill the same neish but obviously in African rivers.
If any one spots any or knows anything about their availability let me know incidentally I have searched on google for images and I have found precisely squat diddly!
They are stunning looking fish though if anyone knows anything please let me know. 3 species can be seen in the baensch photo index on page 704 and in book 3 page 898 also in book 4 and 5 neither yet available in this country in paper back although book 4 recently appeared in English in hard back about time if you asked me hopefully 5 will follow shortly along with 4 in paper back. |

I have not ever seen them in the flesh or on any lists. From what I gather the genus have a wide range and should be ok in fairly neutral conditions. I have lent my book 'Cichlids of west africa by lamboij (spelling!)out at the moment, but their might be more info in there. |

Why is it I always want to keep fish that are near on impossible to get hold of! It does my head in.
I would never have believed how difficult it was to set up an african river biotope community tank when I embarked on it the thing is an absolute nightmare to try and stock. |

Ones of particular interest are microdon and praecox I have managed to rack down some pickies of a few and they are stunning fish west african cichlids are so under represented in this country its depressing. |
