On the external filters, how do you clean the inside of your pipes? i did my tank this morning finally! and it took me ages to get the bits in the inside of the pipes out. In the end i went outside, put the hosepipe on the jet setting and washed the pipe out that way.
But is their an easier way? |

cll its not easy job!
i have a fluval external and i have to do as you did with a jet of water!
on my ehiem external being smooth inside i use garden wire......pass it down the pipe....make a loop on the end and jam some filter wool or fabric in the loop give a few twists and then pull back out.......watch out as u get a gloopy mess go everywhere!!! works wonders cleaning the pipe though !!! i would love a easyer way ....would clean them more often
think i should throw away fluval tubing and get smooth internal pipe.....to much rotting plands get traped causing high nitrate |

what i use is a small bottle brush with the handle cut off with nylon chord tied at both ends.
then feed one end down pipe till it comes out other end trickling water down the pipe at same time helps. then pull brush backwards and forwards up and down pipe till its clean, keep trickling water down to help dislodge the muck |

I don't have a problem with my eheim just with my fluval best way to avoid pipe build up the is to clean the filters of all detritus every other month that way the detritus never comes out of the filter to clog up the pipe work incidentally I don't use any sponges I just use ehfi substrat and a fluidised sand bed. |
