I had two small goldfish for nearly two and a half years, they had always been healthy until one day they got white spot which made them very ill, they then got swim bladder and died. The tank was thoroughly cleaned and set up for some new fish. I bought 4 small fantail fish and after only a week am having problems, the smallest seemed to develop swim bladder and is now in shallow water with some treatment. It seems to be doing ok (it always seemed a bit smaller and weaker than the others) but I'm unsure how long to keep it away from the others.
I also noticed last week that one of the others had white bits on it and it looked like its skin was coming off, I put some white spot treatment in the tank and am following up the treatment but I noticed yesterday one of the others now has a couple of white spots on it. Am I cursed as I don't seem to be doing very well with fish at the minute and I don't know what to do!

white spot is a sod to get rid off at the best of times. keep going with the treatment and it should clear up within a couple of weeks. i would also treat them all togather because that means less treatment because your not treating two tanks.

I don't have any pictures, but one has developed white spots, the other one looked like it's skin was peeling off and had white spots.

Do you think the small one that looked like it had swim bladder problems should go back in the main tank, it is still quiet and has spells of sitting at the bottom and then having a swim!

i thought you had seperated all of them. you will need to treat them all for whitespot and velvet i would think.

I have only separated the one that looked like it was having swim bladder problems, it seems to be doing better at staying upright now but I don't know how long to keep it in shallow water for.
What is velvet?

Can I put anti velvet treatment in at the same time as the white spot treatment?
Also how long should I keep the one that had swim bladder problems in shallow water, it seems to be more active as when I put food in last night it came straight to the top to get it.

Hi, prob a bit late now but about the swin bladder prob's.
Try to vary the diet a bit not to much in the way of flakes but live food, frozen, try DAPHIA.
I was told that the as the case with fan tails that the swim bladder is so close to the stoumoch
that if you use just flake food it will swell up to much.
Regard's
Jeff.
