Anyone any ideas why my pulsing xenia may not be pulsing all of the time? It is deffinately a pulsing species, I was thinking maybe some trace elements help with it more than others??? |

Hi Laura,
I had xenia in my tank for 2 months, grew a lot but never pulsed. One day the power went out and all of the powerheads cut off. 20 seconds later xenia starts pulsing away.
I think it might be in too much flow in my tank, but doesn't seem to mind and its getting huge.

Brilliant, thanks. I guess that would make sense! |

This does make sence as pulsing xenia only pulses to stimulate water flow around polyps, The don't catch food like you may think. |

you be right billysfc the polyp movement is to aid respiration in strong flow it is unneccesary for them to do this.
But that begs the question are they happy in low flow areas where they are forced to pulse to breath or is high flow better? |

I'm of the opinion that in my tank although they don't pulse they must be happy or they wouldn't grow. Maybe wrong. |
