hey dave upload a pic of it! u might find it beneficial to add some coral sand in2 it as well as this will also help to buffer ur pH and hardness levels |
23-05-2006 21:27 by anna
|
ooh dave raise the pH dave wants to be over 7.6 for the malawis |
23-05-2006 21:27 by dave cook

grrr dave some shops really annoy me our display tank at work is made up of levels of different grade of coral sands and they are fine lol been quite happy for 2 years |
23-05-2006 21:29 by Lexter
|
well they say Malawi should be quite high,
I wish my tapwater came out at 6.5 as from what i hear its easier to raise pH than reduce it (unless you use RO) and then it only goes to 7.0
http://www.fishprofiles.com/profiles/
check the above link, i find it quite a useful site. without reading it first, my understanding is that Malawi cichlids prefer pH in the region of 7.5-8.5 but do some research |
23-05-2006 21:29 by dave cook
|
yup im gonna so whats the best ph and how do i get it there |
23-05-2006 21:31 by anna
|
try using coral sand and rift lake salt i use seachem myself |
23-05-2006 21:33 by Lexter

Dave with pH of 6.5 coming out of the tap i'd definitly go for South American Cichlids and perhaps consider some Central American types as well. Bit i suppose you already have Discus and these are SA cichlids.

hi, dave
i have malawi & tangy tanks, & to raise the ph, which comes out of my tap at 7.2, i always add a couple of spoons of bicarbonate of soda to the tank at every water change. this instantly boosts the ph, which mine is then 8.00! so much cheaper than buying that ph up stuff! & doesnt harm the fish. its about 56p a tub at tescos! |
27-05-2006 09:18 by dave cook
|
so how many spoons would you ad to a 10l bucket per water change and how much to set the tank up |
