I have five goldfish that where given to me and over the past weeks one looks like it may be pregnant if this is so should it be seperated from the rest? if not are the spawn at danger? how long are they pregnant for? |

the fish wont be pregnant but may be full of eggs and if you seperate her she will lay unfirtile eggs or may become egg bound
goldfish spawn in groups with a mix of the sexes normally scattering the eggs as they are layed
if it is because the fish looks fat that you say it is pregnant just check that the scales dont look pineconed (ie sticking out )as this could be dropsy and would need treatment |

gold fishes are never pregnant, fertilization occurs after eggs are laid.Agree with rob,if the scales are sticking out,it maybe dropsy |

Female goldfish rarely swell significantly with eggs if you are noticing it its unlikely she is carrying eggs it is likely it is dropsy it may still be early and the scales may not be protruding yet I would suggest immediate treatment with an appropriate off the shelf remedy and you may be lucky. If your not the fish will probably have a couple of years left in it but ideally would be removed before death at this point the eyes are normally swollen there will be rapid breathing and the scales will have a pine cones appearance.
Good luck hope all goes well. |

sounds like swim bladder problem. Heat the tank and get some medication for it. |
