seachem reef calcium does a pretty good job it boosts magnesium strontium and calcium in proportions as found in the sea.

Alan, is this cheaper then buying a bottle each of the Calcium, stronium and magnesium?

Get a bag of bilders lime, mix a mug full with 5lt of RO, let it settle and add the clear liquid in to you sump. If you keep this up should give a reading of over 500K. Keep any eye on it as it will take your pH up aswell. You can add it to your topup water aswell.

On a small tank with low demand the best method generally is the balling method which is a 2 part liquid additive buffering carbonate and calcium levels together. I will be using this when I have finished with the seachem as apparently it is a better method.

Another name for Kalkwasser is quick lime mixes to a ph of about 12 so oit must be added very carefully to avoid out of control ph fluctuations.

I don't use builder lime myself, I use another type of hydrated lime that you can only buy in bulk. This lime is for industial water treatment and is a slightly better mix, also i get it from work so it cost me nothing. Builders lime is just as good but i would say that on-line pH monitoring is a must. Kalkwasser is Germany for lime water after all. (If you are interested the lime I use is called Limbux lime and can cost upto £250 per tonne)
